Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about OLAI.
What is OLAI?▾
OLAI is a digital support companion designed to help older adults and adults with a disability navigate everyday online tasks with confidence. It provides calm, step-by-step guidance for tasks such as booking GP appointments, making video calls, sending emails, and managing online banking, using plain language and clear illustrations. OLAI comes in two products: OLAI Hub, deployed into public and private spaces, and OLAI Home, an app for families launching soon. OLAI is based in the UK.
Who is OLAI designed for?▾
OLAI is designed for older adults and adults with a disability who find digital tasks stressful or confusing, and for the family members who support them. There are two products: OLAI Hub, which we deploy into public and private spaces such as care homes, NHS sites, councils and banks, and OLAI Home, an app available for families in the app store, launching soon.
How does OLAI work?▾
OLAI provides guided instructions that walk you through digital tasks at your own pace. There is no jargon, no rushing, and no judgment.
What tasks can OLAI help with?▾
OLAI guides you through everyday digital tasks including: booking a GP appointment on the NHS App, ordering repeat prescriptions online, making video calls to family, sending WhatsApp voice messages, writing and sending emails, filling in online forms, shopping online safely, checking a bank account, setting phone reminders, and spotting and avoiding online scams.
How is OLAI different from other tech support services?▾
Unlike generic helplines or video tutorials, OLAI is built specifically for older adults and adults with a disability. Every instruction is written in plain English, with no technical jargon. OLAI moves at your own pace, with no time pressure and no complicated menus. When you get stuck, OLAI offers a simpler explanation rather than repeating the same wording. It treats every person with patience and dignity.
Can care homes, NHS trusts, and other organisations use OLAI?▾
Yes. Through OLAI Hub, we deploy OLAI into public and private spaces run by organisations that support older adults and adults with a disability, including care homes, NHS trusts, councils, banks, housing associations, and employers. Partner organisations can offer OLAI to their residents, patients, tenants, or employees to help them access digital services independently. Get in touch via the contact form on this page.
Is OLAI free to use?▾
OLAI is currently in its early access phase. Individuals can join the waitlist for free using the form on this page. Pricing for the full service will be announced ahead of launch.
When is OLAI launching?▾
OLAI Hub is available now for organisations, deployed into public and private spaces. OLAI Home, our app for families, is launching soon on the app store. Join the waitlist on this page to be among the first to get it. OLAI is supported by THrive, GM Business Growth Hub, and Bruntwood SciTech.
Is OLAI safe and secure?▾
Yes. OLAI takes privacy and security seriously. The service never stores sensitive personal information such as banking passwords or NHS login details. All data is processed in line with UK GDPR. OLAI does not sell personal data to third parties.
What is the sandwich generation and how does OLAI help?▾
The sandwich generation refers to adults who are simultaneously raising their own children and supporting ageing parents. Many spend significant time each week helping older relatives with digital tasks such as booking appointments, paying bills online, or video calling family. OLAI gives those older relatives a calm, independent way to complete these tasks themselves, reducing the burden on family members and helping older adults feel more confident and in control.
